SUMMER STUDIO 2019
STUDIO 15: ROBOTICS MEETS ADVANCED FABRICATION: A CROSS-DISCIPLINARY EXPERIENCES
Project description: A multi-tool hub attached to the UR3 Robot Arm to perform post-processing on a 3D printed part. The tools included in this hub:
-
Drill
-
Pen
-
Laser Engraver
-
Cutter
Project ideas: One of the major problems that prevent 3D printing technology from becoming more popular and widely used among people is the quality of the final products. They usually don't have a smooth surface and the holes printed by the printers are not dimension-accurate. Therefore, we come up with a solution to tackle those problems, which involves using the advanced technology of robotics and traditional mechanical tools to achieve a high-quality finish product. Future Plans and Visions: In addition to the tool hub, we have also come up with a Computer Vision algorithm that can classify between different colour blocks and identify their edges and positions within a preset working area of the robot. We want to use this algorithm to develop a solution to making this post-processing procedure to become autonomous. The robot will find and locate the position of the object within the working area, moves there by itself, and performs the given task chosen by the user.
