PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE WITHIN INTERCULTURAL AND GLOBAL CONTEXTS
ENGAGING IN MULTICULTURAL WORKPLACE IS BOTH CHALLENGING AND REWARDING

The multi-culture workplace has become popular in most companies nowadays, where employees come from different nationalities and parts of the world. Therefore, an engineer needs to be able to understand and respect cultural diversity and differences. The opportunity to work at the Robot People helped me a lot in understanding and getting familiar in a multi-culture environment.
At the Robot People, people were amiable and helpful; both the engineers and managers, it almost seemed like there was no barrier between them for their role and positions in the company. They cooperate and communicate effectively to gain maximum efficiency for their work. On the first day, I was introduced to the members of the company by my supervisor. It was not a big company, but there were many people from many different backgrounds and nationality, ranging from engineers to business, accounting and mechanics. The company usually had lunch together every day at work, and during that time, they shared their stories not only about work but also about their daily life as well. Participating in common lunchtimes with everyone in the company granted me a great opportunity to understand more about different cultural background. During those time, I felt that being able to participate in such a professional and friendly environment like The Robot People helped me a lot in both gaining the most experience from an internship and also enjoying it at the same time.
When comparing the working environment of Australia to Vietnam, my home country, it was much more professional and friendly. In Australia, it seems like people are very straight forward with their choice of word, which I believe is a positive aspect of workplace scenarios. To produce high-quality outcomes, being straight forward and able to express the ideas and feeling directly should be welcome and considered necessary. I believe it was an excellent opportunity for me to develop a professional working habit, regardless of where I am working and who I am working with.
From the daily lunchtime and the opportunity to work directly under the guidance of my supervisor at the Robot People, I learnt how to understand and respect the differences in a multi-cultural working environment. Furthermore, I realized the importance of being able to adapt to different working scenarios, since it is also a part working in a multi-culture environment. Adaptability is also an essential skill that I have learnt that will be helpful for my future career.
