Last Wednesday, I had a tutorial session with my group regarding the methods and guidelines to write an effective cover letter that would increase the chance of landing for the applied job. The comments given by both the tutor and the team members were constructive and helpful. Some of the noticeable points of writing an effective cover letter from the tutorial were try not to write the letter too long, as it may distract the reader from important information or key selling points that I would like to show to the employer. The cover letter that I submitted before was long compared to the ideal length of a cover letter. The reason for that length was the paragraphs for the selective criteria. They were unnecessary lengthy even though they were able to cover the critical points for each criteria utilizing the STAR method. It would be better if I can manage to shorten the length of each paragraph by 2 or 3 sentences. Another point that was stated by my teammates should be included are the reasons why I would like to apply for the positions and my relevant skills. By adding this information, it would be easier for the employer to have a clear overall look at me before continuing with selective criteria. Based on the feedback from my teammates, I was able to make reasonable changes to my cover letter. Hopefully, it would be good enough to attract employers and secure me the position that I would apply for in the future.
